Wordless Wednesday: Mud Time

Our innocent little trip to the park yesterday went all to the dogs when I forgot the most important thing about spring: shade=mud. Or, in this case, substantial standing water. Seriously, I just wanted to walk on the shady side of the path.

 Beautiful day at the park

 Silas is still clean

There's a mud puddle!

Now I am muddy

 Really muddy. Poor white dog.

 Practicing calmness at the park.

I also forgot that the air conditioner went out in my car over the winter, so we almost had a heat stroke on the way home. Yeah, Silas is afraid of riding with the windows down, and it was a sunny 85 degrees.

Home for a bath

  1. Those are some monster puddles. The thought of riding in the car on an 85 degree day with no AC and windows up makes me want to vomit. He is lucky to have you. : )

    1. Trust me, I would not have done it on purpose. I completely forgot about the air not working!

I realized this morning that I have almost the exact series of images from this same park a year ago. Apparently, it’s our spring mud place.

  2. That looks like lots of fun! I let B play in the occasional mud puddle (when we can find them) but she doesn’t look nearly as muddy as Silas does! That white coat is just the perfect canvas for mud designs!

    1. Fortunately he also dries fast, so by the time we got back to the car he wasn’t such a mess.

I know I *shouldn’t* let Silas in the mud, because what standing water we have here is really stagnant, but sometimes I just can’t help it. Plus this was his first really warm hike of the year, and it cooled him off so much. I’m sure that’s what you think with Blueberry, too.

    1. Silas is such a city dog–when we drive through something that smells interesting, he’ll stick his nose to the car vent.

I assume he can’t handle the windows being down because he’s terrified of traffic, but he’s also not a big fan of the wind. As a person who gets queasy in the car, I’m more on Dina’s side. Sometimes a breath of fresh air is really helpful.

  3. I loved watching Silas get progressively muddier and muddier as the photos continued πŸ™‚ So cute. Looks like he had fun! Thank goodness the weather is finally warming up! Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚

  4. That looks like every dog’s dream. I hope you have the kind of soil we do that just falls off and leaves the dog relatively clean when they dry.

    1. Silas is pretty self-cleaning, but this stuff was definitely sticky. He was dry and clean enough to put in the car on top of a blanket, but then we went straight for the bath tub.

  5. Haha…that’s one of my favorite things about having pit bull type dogs, by the time we get home, I can barely tell how dirty they were! My mom’s shepherd hangs on to dirt and stays damp til the next day:(

    1. Seriously. Silas is usually half-clean by the time we get back to the car, and definitely dry. Combine that with his tendency to self-clean, and I bathe him much less often than you’d think.
